I grew up in rural Maine in a little town called East Livermore. I served six years in the Marine Corps, serving in Operations Desert Shield and
Desert Storm. I graduated from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine in 1999 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering. I live in San Luis Obispo, California, I’m 38 years old, a father of four, and engaged to be married in October to a wonderful woman named Rebecca.
I lost my leg 5 1/2 years ago on August 9, 2002 due to injuries sustained in a automobile accident on August 6, 2002.
I have been an amputee since March of 2001. I finally got the Harley Davidson I had dreamed of, only to wreck it six months later. I veered across the double yellow lines doing 60 plus. Only one problem? There was a Ford pick-up driving at 45 plus on the on-coming side. I landed in the bed of the truck. Amazingly, here I am to share this story. I broke legs, both arms, my nose, my hip, and suffered brain and lung contusions. To top it all off I developed a blood clot during surgery, which stopped in my lower vena cava (heart). About a week later, the doctor informed me it would be in my best interests to amputate my right leg below the knee.
With over 2 million amputees in US alone and a further 380 thousand expected over the next year this organisation has a lot to do.
Please be generous and keep organizations growing and serving your community.
