Mills visits amputee after Twitter plea

Rex Features

Heather Mills has made a personal hospital visit to an amputee after receiving a plea for support on her Twitter page.

The former model was contacted by a relative of the woman in question following her recent decision to join the online blogging service.

In a public message to Mills, user ‘crusty1′ asked: "My cousin has had her foot and part leg amputated, I am so sad. Would you visit her hospital in London please please?"

After Mills agreed to do so, the relative added: "You are a wonderful lady. Simply can’t thank you enough – she is lovely and a very special person who really deserves help. Thank you."

Further messages exchanged between the pair on Monday confirmed that the ex-wife of Sir Paul McCartney had visited the hospital as promised.

Mills lost her left leg after being hit by a police motorbike in 1993. She also suffered crushed ribs and a punctured lung in the accident.

The 41-year-old has since become a vocal anti-landmine campaigner and counselled victims of the 7/7 terror attacks on London in 2005.
