Many Montanans are donating food and supplies to help victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Now one Great Falls business is trying to help in a more unique way. They are collecting items for those who have lost limbs, as thousands of Haitians have experienced injuries leading to amputation.
Many survivors of the Haiti earthquake are learning how to live a much different life.
“It turned out that there were a lot of crushing injuries,” said Ryan Thompson of Clark’s Orthopedic and Medical. “And many of those led to amputation. Thousands of people are losing their limbs or have already lost limbs.”
Clark’s Orthopedic and Medical in Great Falls specializes, partially, in equipment that helps amputees. Now they are asking people in the community to donate used mobility items and prosthetics for the cause.
“We are asking for used equipment that people are not using,” said Thompson. “We’ll ship it to Haiti and get it to someone that really needs it.”
Thompson says that this disaster could become the biggest in world history when it comes to people losing limbs. And with the poverty-stricken nation already lacking this particular equipment, it’s critical that we help donate to those that need it most.
“There was obvious loss of life, as well as survivors dealing with amputation. This equipment is crucial for rehabilitation and survival.”
If you are interested in donating used mobility and prosthetics equipment, you are encouraged to visit Clark’s Orthopedic and Medical at 816 9th Street South in great falls. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9-5 and Fridays, 9-4.
